The Lost Leader. A Play in Three Acts. Dublin: Eigeas Press By Thomas Kiersey Palmerstown Garden, 1918. First Edition. Pp. 107. Ex library copy with stamps in a library cloth binding. A good copy.

Lennox Robinson’s second play based on Charles Stewart Parnell who held the balance of power in the House of Commons during the Home Rule debates of 1885–1886. He fell from power following revelations of a long-term affair, and died at age 45.

The play is reflective of Robinson’s profound dissatisfaction with, and mistrust of, the socio-political metanarrative of early twentieth-century Ireland.

Lennox Robinson was manager, producer & director of the Abbey theatre from April 1919, where he remained till his death in 1958.
