Donegal born economist and poet, John K. Ingram (1823-1907) wrote on labour and trade issues, his book ‘A History of Slavery and Serfdom’ was extensively extremely successful, being translated into eleven languages.

He was president of the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland between 1878 and 1880 and took over as President of the Royal Irish Academy in 1892.
