Donal O’Sullivan was born in Liverpool in 1893. After a career in the Civil Service in London and Dublin he was called to the bar in 1922. Retiring in 1936 to devote himself to study and research in Irish traditional music having been editor of the Journal of Irish Folk Song Society from 1920.

This collection is divided in to fourteen sections, under the headings of Lullabies, Children’s Songs, the Sorrow of Love, The Joyce of Love , religious Songs, etc.
