Her Vertical Smile combines rhapsody and parody in its portrayal of the young men’s excited response to the music of old Vienna at the turn of the century, to music that expressed the idealism of the first world war.

Peppercanister 10 is a disguised elegy, in which loss and death, the destruction of an empire, the death of an artist-friend, the purpose of power, the purpose of sexuality, the purpose of life are all brought into focus.
