At Swim Two Birds. London: Macgibbon, 1960. Second UK Edition. Preceded by the two impressions by Longmans Green, published in 1939. Black cloth boards, dust jacket printed in green, white and orange. Light fraying along edges of jacket (price-clipped), small stain to rear cover, otherwise a nice bright copy.

Inscribed in Latin by the Author to fellow writer Maura Laverty (with her signature above the inscription): ‘Brian O’Nolan, auctor, Pater Diabolicus ‘The Unholy Father’ 26-6-61.”

A very rare presentation copy of O’Nolan’s masterpiece. ‘At Swim’ has been described one of the most amusing, wildly funny works of genius in contemporary Irish literature. Described by Graham Greene as in the ‘line of Tristram Shandy and Ulysses.’

Maura Laverty (née Kelly; 1907 -1966) was an Irish author, journalist and broadcaster known for her work on Irish soap opera Tolka Row. She published several novels, short stories and critical pieces throughout her career.
