The first of Joyce’s books to be published by a commercial publisher (Cape bought the rights from Harriet Weaver). This edition was reset with Joyce’s apparently active collaboration, though the author was distressed that in this printing dialogue was rendered in quotation marks, rather than with the dashes that were used in the first edition.
