Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland [with] Through The Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. London: Macmillan, 1878; 1877 respectively (58th thousand and 41th thousand). Two volumes. Finely bound in recent full red morocco, spine with five raised bands. Spine compartments ruled and decorated with gilt stamped Mad Hatter, Dormouse, and Playing card devices. Single gilt ruled border to boards, all edges gilt. Original cloth covers bound-in at rear of both volumes. A very good set, in handsome binding.
Illustrated with ninety-two illustrations by John Tenniel.
Early edition of this much loved classic by Charles Dodgson, first published by Macmillan in 1866. with fine pen & ink drawings by Tenniel throughout the text.
English illustrator and satirical artist, especially known for his work in Punch, Tenniel illustrated the first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1872).
