The Wind in the Willows. With a Frontispiece by Graham Robertson. London: Methuen, 1908. First Edition. Publisher’s gilt pictorial and lettered green cloth, featuring ‘Pan’ among the reeds at the riverbank to upper cover, edges untrimmed. Frontispiece intact tissue guard. Scattered spotting mostly towards beginning and end, joints and edges a little rubbed, spine ends slightly frayed.

Overall a sharp and excellent example of this children’s classic. Housed in collector’s box.

Grahame’s classic tale of the riverbank, originally told as bedtime stories and then written in the form of letters to the author’s son, Alistair, an unhappy boy who died tragically under a train while an undergraduate at Oxford in 1920.

An enduring contribution to the shared literature of young and old, featuring the exploits of Mole, Ratty and Toad.
