Joy Batchelor and John Halas were a married couple and pioneering figures in British animation. They are best known for their work in animated films, including the 1954 animated adaptation of Animal Farm, which was the first British animated feature film.

The film itself was a groundbreaking project, and the illustrations in this edition would have served as a bridge between the literary and cinematic versions of the story.

Secker & Warburg was Orwell’s primary publisher in the UK. They published the original edition of Animal Farm in 1945 and continued to release various editions of his works.
