The Arabian Nights Entertainment. London: Longmans, Green,1898. First Edition. Rebound in quarter green morocco over cloth boards. Raised bands with title lettered in gilt to compartments, all edges in gilt. Scattered spotting throughout, but overall a nice copy.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-two engraved plates plus smaller illustrations in the text, by H J Ford, a British illustrator best known for illustrating Lang’s books. 

These are shortened versions of the tales of The Arabian Nights translated from Gal land; according to the introduction he omits “pieces only suitable for Arabs and old gentlemen”. 

Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic and contributor to the field of anthropology, who is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales.
