William Bilton or Belton, was an Englishman, who came to Ireland in the summer of 1833 to explore the countryside and to indulge in his passion for fishing. His ‘rambles’ were confined to Munster and Connacht as in the previous year he had made a short tour of Ulster. His habit of fishing led him to explore parts of the country not commonly visited by travellers. In Clare for instance he fished at Broadford and the lakes about Newmarket and Corofin.
One of the cornerstones in any collection of books on angling in Ireland, providing insights into fishing experiences in the scenic regions of Connaught and Munster.
