Published from the Originals; with Notes Explanatory and Historical, By John Hawkesworth, L.L.D. Three Volumes. London: R. Davis, etc, 1766. Early 19th century full calf, marbled endpapers, upper & lower boards with decorative floral & lozenge fillet borders, gilt corner pieces & with coat of arms to centre of each. Volumes 1,8,10,11 and 12 have been neatly rebacked, spines of remaining volumes worn & hinges cracked but holding, lacking title labels, upper board of volume (2) detached; residue to front pastedowns where bookplates have been removed. Contents throughout in nice bright condition.
Volumes XIII to XVI were published as a supplement to the original twelve volumes.
Volumes I, X, XI and XII were published in 1755. Volume II to IX were published in 1754. Volumes XIII and XIV were published in 1764. Volumes XV and XVI were published in 1765.
