Leventhal was a lecturer in French at Trinity college Dublin and a well-known art and literary critic. After WWI, he was among those who worked for the first Zionist Commission in Palestine. Upon returning to Dublin in the 1920s he founded the literary journal, ‘The Klaxon.’ Samuel Beckett was a regular contributor and good friend, which led to Levanthal later working for him as secretary.
