Hugh Allingham was born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland 28 April 1845. He was a half-brother of the poet, William Allingham. He worked as a bank manager and was a keen local historian.
P. W. Joyce was an Irish historian, writer and music collector, known particularly for his research in Irish etymology and local place names of Ireland.
