Patrick MacGill (1889-1963) was born in Glenties, Co. Donegal. A journalist, poet and novelist, known as The Navvy Poet because he had worked as a navvy (a labourer) in Scotland. He spent most of his life in England and later in the USA, where he died in 1963.
