Gisèle Freund was a European intellectual and writer, and one of the world’s greatest photographers especially for her portraits of artists and writers and for working in colour film in its nascency.

Joyce was one of the first writers Freund photographed in colour for Time magazine in 1939, when his last book, Finnegans Wake, was published. Related press-clippings loosely inserted.
